Seymour's roots run older than the state of Tennessee. Pioneer Samuel Newell built a frontier station here in 1783, and Sevier County's first court met at Newell's Station under the short-lived State of Franklin. The community took the name Seymour when the railroad arrived in the early 1900s. Today this unincorporated community straddles the Sevier and Blount county line where Chapman Highway crosses U.S. 411, with Bluff Mountain to the south and the Smoky Mountain foothills all around.
