Heiskell was once an old-time railroad town. Passengers could catch one of several daily trains into Knoxville, and many residents worked for the Southern Railroad. The depot is long gone, though its foundation still marks the top of Depot Street, and a Sears kit house whose parts arrived by train in 1909 still stands across the tracks.
