This unincorporated community in northeast Knox County traces its start to 1785, when Revolutionary War veteran John Sawyers built a small fort along Emory Road. It takes its name from Corryton Woodbury, who bought land around the railroad depot in 1887 hoping to build a suburban town. The lots didn't sell, and Corryton stayed farm country, with Clinch Mountain to the north and Gibbs schools nearby.
